Milingo to Work with ‘Da Vinci Code’ Author on Novel, Movie (CISA, 29/08/06)
The Holy See has warned that there will be “serious consequences” for a rebel Zambian archbishop if reports that he is to work with the author of ‘The Da Vinci Code’ on a new novel about exorcisms are true. Archbishop Emmanuel Milingo, the controversial former archbishop of Lusaka is reported to have agreed to work with Dan Brown on the project, journalist Gerry O'Connell in Rome told CISA. The agreement was said to have been reached at a meeting in Houston, Texas, attended by representatives of Dan Brown, Sony Pictures, Random House publishing company and Target, an American company which intends to finance the film. Participants talked about organizing a meeting between Archbishop Milingo, the self-proclaimed African faith healer and exorcist, and Dan Brown at Gatwick in late September or early October, according to the Italian daily, Il Giornale. - In addition to his work with Brown on the new novel, Milingo is also reported to have reached an agreement to collaborate with Sony Pictures in the production of a film based on Brown’s earlier novel, Angels and Demons. It seems though that the Zambian has not yet decided whether he will collaborate under his own name or as a behind-the-scenes advisor. He is reported to have told Sony Pictures that the decision depends on what action the Vatican takes about him in the coming weeks. - Almost two months ago, Archbishop Milingo disappeared from his residence-in-exile at Zagarolo, near Rome, where the Vatican had consigned him. He had abandoned Maria Sung, his Korean wife from the Moonie Sect and, repenting of his 2001 marriage to her, requested and was granted reconciliation with the Church by Pope John Paul II. However in July, he reappeared in Washington DC at the head of a new movement calling on the Church to recognize married priests and re-integrate those who had abandoned their ministry to marry. Milingo also revealed he had returned to his wife, to whom he said he had always felt married. The Vatican, while moving carefully, has already signaled its displeasure at the news and said if the story is as has been reported then there would be "serious consequences" in store for Milingo. INTRODUCTION
“For I know the plans I have for you, says the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
The words from the prophet Jeremiah are a clear testimony of what God desires for all His people. God wants nothing more than to see His people enjoy the fullness of life. However, God needs our cooperation as His people to ensure that this hope for a better future becomes a reality. The coming elections offer us an opportunity to elect leaders with the necessary attributes and vision that can bring about this better future.
